Why We’re Not a One-Stop Shop
By Mark Inboden
If you’ve read our blog for any length of time, you’ll see that we hold our many valuable partners in high regard. The engineering firms we work with are committed, professional and high-performing organizations, and it’s a pleasure to partner with them.
I have never viewed UCEC as a “one-stop shop." Simply put, we build the best control panels, period. We do not get into the design and engineering of panels. We take our customer's designs, and with our panel building experience, we work with them to incorporate our best practices. To be all things to all people with something as complicated as a control panel sends up a red flag to me. When panels shops try to do everything (a “one-stop shop”), that’s when things get diluted and messy.
This type of thinking also gets into gray areas. When an engineering firm comes to us, we act as an extension of that engineering firm. We’re not there to interact with the end customer (unless needed) or take that customer as our own. For some panel shops, the temptation to cut out the engineering firm on the next project is great. UCEC does not do that and never will.
There is so much talent and work that goes into a UCEC panel. We know our industry thoroughly, and we want to remain leaders in the field. We won’t get there by being all things to all people. Our talented craftsmen contribute their years of knowledge of panel building to each project. Conversely, most engineering firms who try to build panels quickly learn there is more to them than meets the eye!
