Looking Back and Moving Forward

We've recently begun a Twitter thread featuring old components we've discovered in our shop. So far, we've showcased two items. The first one was the Weston model 440 galvanometer, which can be found in engineering museums or purchased for $25 - $50 on eBay. Some of these are even used in Steampunk exhibits.

The second item was equally fascinating, but we had trouble identifying the manufacturer even with various apps like Google Lens. Nevertheless, we noticed some similarities to a Simpson multimeter after removing the cover. This instrument had been sitting on a shelf for decades, but still worked once we replaced the batteries. It was truly incredible.

The multimeter of unknown origin

Looking back at these old components has prompted us to think about the future, particularly how the combination of innovation and traditional values relates to what we do. In this blog, we'll explore some of those thoughts.

Are we forced to choose?

Is it necessary to choose one over the other? Innovation has become a buzzword in the corporate world as every company strives to be innovative and cutting-edge. However, innovation and traditional values are often seen as contradictory. Many people believe that innovation involves abandoning old-fashioned ways of thinking to embrace the new. At UCEC, we don't believe it's an either-or proposition. Innovation and traditional values can coexist in the same space, as we have experienced.

How are our competitors handling this?

We've noticed that some of our competitors boast about their "state-of-the-art facilities" and how their innovations are saving them time and increasing their capacity. But are these innovations truly saving their clients time and money, or are they simply making it easier for the company to produce more products or compete at a lower price? We continue to embrace technology and innovation, but we recognize that this is only a small part of what drives our clients' success. That's why, as we see our competitors promoting the latest bells and whistles, we believe it's essential to remain focused on what truly matters. Our clients choose to work with us because they know we will deliver a quality product at a reasonable price and meet their delivery deadlines.

The UCEC Difference

The UCEC difference is that we place a higher value on our employees than machines. Technology is fantastic, but it can never replace our skilled craftspeople who understand the rationale behind their work and what a “custom” control panel entails. We prioritize quality and strive to maintain the handcrafted aspect of our work while. This allows us to provide our clients with the best possible control panels.

Innovation is essential, but at UCEC, it's only a small part of what drives our success. At the end of the day, it's not about the latest technology or flashy new gadgets; it's about relationships, doing business on a handshake, and truly understanding your customers. At UCEC, we emphasize quality, meeting delivery deadlines, and preserving traditional values while embracing modern technology.
