Employee Spotlight: Meet Kathy VanDerlyn

For Kathy VanDerlyn, warehouse organization is something that comes naturally. Prior to arriving at UCEC, she worked in the automotive business for 16 years. As the warehouse manager in the parts department for two suburban Denver dealerships, Kathy was in charge of inventory, ordering and warehouse organization, in addition to dispatching delivery drivers.

So when a warehouse opening at UCEC popped up in her search for a new job, Kathy knew she had found her new home. “I like numbers and putting them in order,” Kathy says. “I have this thing about organization and knowing where everything is.”

As part of her job as Shipping and Receiving Clerk, Kathy checks in orders and gets the parts ready to go out onto the shop floor for new projects. She also helps prepare panels to ship out and delivers them to local destinations. She was recently trained to use the warehouse forklift.

Kathy has been with UCEC since February 2016 and she says the teamwork she’s already enjoyed is part of what makes UCEC special. “I love the teamwork here,” she notes. “Everyone has to help everyone else. You can’t run a business without teamwork.”

My Daddy taught me to do it 110 percent or don’t do it all. We work hard here but you can still have fun.

Away from the warehouse, Kathy enjoys baking (and her colleagues get to enjoy her creations, too!). Puzzle making is a favorite hobby. She finds puzzles to assemble (or has a custom one made) and then frames them for loved ones. Currently, she is working on a series of wolf puzzles for her son. Kathy also enjoys fly fishing with her boyfriend, particularly at Chatfield and Staunton State Parks. She is the mother to a grown son and daughter and has two teenage granddaughters.
