UCEC Partner Spotlight: Logical Systems, LLC
By Mark Inboden
When we talk about our business partner Logical Systems, LLC, the first thing that comes to mind is the company culture in the Golden office. Branch Manager Tre Prater says LSI strives to maintain a fun, productive, small company environment. They hire good people. They have a mix of senior engineers that mentor younger, less experienced engineers to create a team that is efficient, responsive and cost competitive.
LSI works closely with Colorado School of Mines and has had great success hiring talented people. “We work really hard at not allowing younger engineers to get pigeonholed into repetitive tasks,” Tre says. “We want them to understand all the pieces of the project.”
UCEC works with LSI’s 50-person Golden office, but the company is actually spread across 220 employees and six offices: the headquarters in Memphis, TN; Rossville, GA; Jackson, TN; Guangzhou, China; and Toronto, Ontario. LSI is a global provider of process, mechanical and electrical engineering services specializing in process improvement, automation, systems integration and information systems. The Golden office opened in 2008.
LSI works with a variety of industrial control environments including Food and Beverage (both in process and packaging), Natural Gas processing and transportation and Mining. LSI is one of the country’s premier DeltaV DCS integrators, a recognized Rockwell Integrator and Siemens Solutions Partner.
One service element LSI provides to their clients is hardware and panel designs. Once the design is finished, UCEC steps in to fabricate and wire the panels.
Tre tells me he likes the “family-type” of environment at UCEC. His office’s company culture appeals to us, as well. From mountain biking at lunchtime to home brew competitions, LSI is a fantastic global firm with a Colorado presence.
It’s a pleasure to work with great partners like LSI. Check back to our blog from time to time for more partner and vendor stories. And please follow us on LinkedIn or Twitter.

UCEC has existed for more than sixty years by building the best control panels, period. To keep our focus on quality custom panels, we’ve never defined ourselves as a “one-stop shop." To be all things to all people with something as complicated as a control panel should send up a red flag. Read on to see two examples of that philosophy in action.
A lot of people think the panel industry is a quiet, staid industry where very little innovation happens. That may have been true decades ago, but electrical control panel fabrication has enjoyed the benefits of new technology. And UCEC is definitely taking advantage of these new technology innovations to bring our customers better panels with greater efficiencies. .
At UCEC, we build control panels to most efficiently serve the needs of our customers. That means ever control panel we build is different than the last. Despite this, there are some elements that make every control panel similar. In this article, we detail the most common components found in electrical control panels and the traditional best practices of control panel layout.

I’m pleased to introduce another Colorado company and valuable UCEC vendor, Royal Supply Company, Inc. Based out of Commerce City, Royal Supply was founded in 1963 by former United States Air Force Mechanic Virgil Flanders. This early version of the company was known as Denver’s “Rivet House” because they were a supplier of surplus aircraft parts.
As UCEC’s Project Coordinator, looking down the road to what’s coming our way is my business! Future thinking is in my DNA, so to speak. My job is to put all of the projects into perspective: do we have the right parts and the right scheduling to stay on track, on time and on budget?
More and more customers are asking for a UL listing, so I think it’s going to become standardized in the future. Many customers know the care we put into our panels, and they know the UL listing will be a good factor in their project.
